What are armor plates?

Although size, shape, and material may vary, armored plates are all built for one purpose – to stop ballistic threats. Using an arrangement of high-tech materials, hard armor panels are capable of stopping significantly more than their soft-armor counter-pats.  Designed for use in bulletproof vests and carriers, ballistic plates act as the heart of any body armor system engineered to protect against rifles and heavy calibers.  Thanks to their protection level and durability hard armor has become an essential tool in police, security and military forces around the world and at home in the USA.   Ballistic levels to choose from
  • Level IIIa – Large Handguns: .357 Mag / .357 Sig / .44 Mag / 9mm FMJ RN
  • Level III – Standard Rifles: 7.62mm NATO FMJ / 5.56mm / .30 Carbine
  • Level IV – Armor Penetrating / RIfle: .30 CALIBER M2AP / .30-06

What Type of hard armor is available?

While hard plates come in many different materials and formats there are two primary categories to look out for.  Stand-alone plates are capable of providing their stated protection level without any additional ballistic components. This simplicity makes them the ideal option for tactical carriers – the tool of choice for operators and special forces around the globe.  For those looking to build the lightest and most compact fully-armored rig, ICW (In Conjunction With) plates are the best solution. Working in tandem with an underlying soft-armor layer ICW ridgid plates can be made significantly lighter and thinner than their standalone counterparts. However, said plates must be used in combination with select ballistic base-layers to deliver the stated protective ballistic rating.

Can civilians buy armor plates?

The laws and regulations regarding the sale and use of hard armor vary greatly depending on your region. Be sure to check your local and national laws before you choose your armor solution.

Are Ridgid Plates Heavy?

No! The heavy steel and cast iron armor of early modern warfare are quite literally a thing of the past. Today, hard armor is made out of high strength synthetic fibers and ceramic composites – delivering superiors protection at a significantly lower weight. High-end hard solutions are incredibly lightweight, rivaling and even superseding soft armor counterparts – keeping our soldiers safe without sacrificing comfort or mobility.
F.A.Q

What is armor plate made of?

There are various choice for hard plate body armor. The three most common materials because of their harness and weight are UHMWPE, Aluminum Oxide, Boron Carbide, and Silicone Carbide.

How effective is plate armor?

Hard plate armor is the strongest type of personal ballistic body armor currently available. It can stop rifle rounds up to 0.30cal Armor Piercing as well as almost all types of explosive shrapnel.

When did plate armor stop being used?

Steel plate fell out of favor in the 17th century when firearms became too powerful. But, ballistic plates from different modern materials are still used to this day.
